OEM Bearing
Output shaft bearing manufactured to C3 specification which relates to the tolerances required for the speed and temperature this bearing runs at.
This bearing has slot in the outer race complete with clip. The clip is required to hold the bearing in the case. If you fit a bearing without the clip then damage can be caused to the gears as they can engage with the wrong gear due to the sideways movement.
The clip on this bearing goes to the inside of the case and is held in place by the bearing retainer #28 on the parts page.

There are other bearings of this size available with a different bearing specification that are cheaper but not up to the job and will fail.
Manufactured by NTN, NSK or Koyo depending what is available, both are OEM bearings, check the ones you take out.
Beware cheap bearings from the far east!
When fitting or removing this bearing remember the crankcase has to be REALLY hot. Rule of thumb is if you spit on the cases and it just rolls off rather than evaporating the cases are hot enough. The driveshaft has to be fitted with the rest of the gearbox and will drop into this bearing even when the case has cooled, the worst it will need is a tap on the end from a very small hammer.
There are a number of ways to get the casing hot enough.
1. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, the wife may not like this though!
2. Blow torch for about 10-15 minutes
3. Our preferred option is to use a hot air gun, the paint stripping type for about 10-15 minutes per case. Much safer option and keeps the workshop nice and warm on the cold winter days!
