The back of the arms have 2 pegs which are for locating in the flywheel holes again for undoing the flywheel nut and also for holding the crank whilst you undo the primary nut.

Clutch Tool 2

If you are rebuilding a XT250 engine, or any XT for that matter, there are 4 engine nuts that need to be removed in a specific order -

1. Front Sprocket Nut

Put the bike is 1st gear and clamp this tool to the clutch boss, you will then be able to remove this nut quite easily. If you are removing the sprocket nut without rebuilding the engine then this tool will hold the sprocket.

2. Clutch Centre Nut

Clamp the tool to the clutch boss and remove the nut

3. Primary Drive nut

Locate the pegs on the rear of the tool in the holes in the flywheel, you have to be careful on the TY80 to avoid catching the magnets, then clamp shut and remove the primary drive centre nut, right side of the engine as you are sitting on it

4. Flywheel nut

Whilst the tool is still clamped to the flywheel you will be able to remove the centre nut and extract the flywheel using the flywheel puller we have listed. Before applying the extractor don't forget to remove the spring and flat washer from the flywheel. DON'T attempt to remove the flywheel with a hammer and tyre lever all you will do is wreck the end of the crank and the flywheel will still be on.

You will get the best results if the engine is still in the frame with the barrel and piston still in place, the engine won't roll about all over the bench.

For reassembling the engine do the above in reverse order, i.e

Flywheel nut

Primary nut

Clutch nut

Sprocket nut

Here endeth the lesson for today!
