The secret of a light
clutch action on the TY250 is to go for lightweight springs and heavy
duty clutch plates, not the other way about. Most aftermarket springs are heavy
duty ones, more suited for sub 8 second runs at Santa Pod than for trials use and they make the clutch lever very heavy.
Most of the cheap clutch plate sets are lightweight and will not put up with
trials use.
We also recommended using semi-synthetic oil in the 2 stroke gearbox as the clutch doesn't like fully synthetic. Personally we prefer Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) as it is perfect and cheap!
Before fitting we recommend that the plates are soaked in clean oil overnight, helps them bed in better.
There
are a lot of clutch friction plates out there masquerading as quality
kits. Unfortunately they will not stand up to heavy use and will start
slipping very quickly. Of course we know this because we ride
these bikes in regular and long distance events!
